SK Telecom, Google to Cooperate on Android Market; Apple Gains Approval to Sell iPhone 4 in Korea

Korean telecom operator SK Telecom announced on August 2, 2010 that the company will team up with Google for improving the Android Market in Korea, according to Dow Jones Newswires. SK Telecom plans to integrate a payment system with the Android Market, so that any purchases that the customers made on the Android Market will be charged on their mobile phone bills. Android Market is an online store developed by Google for Android devices; therefore, SK Telecom's move is expected to boost Google's market share in Korea's online software market. It is reported that customers buying applications on the Android Market in Korea will be able to pay with Korean Won.

In related news, the Korea Communications Commission has approved the sale of iPhone 4 in the country on August 3, 2010, according to the same source. It is reported that iPhone 4 will be offered exclusively by the Korean telecom operator KT, and the company plans to release iPhone 4 in September this year.
